About Farm Fresh Pantry

Farm Fresh Pantry recipes are typically gluten free, grain free, no and low glycemic using local foods. I love food and when I made the decision to change to healthier eating habits my main goal was taking all my family and friends comfort food recipes & turning them into healthier creations. The recipes mainly consist of a meat and vegetable type of diet w/ grain free, gluten free side dishes and baked goods.

I try to buy as local as possible when choosing the ingredients for my recipes. My friends at Buy Fresh, Buy Local put a list together of the importance of why local food is better.  If you go to their website (www.buylocalpa.org)  you can find a list of local farmers in your area.

Why is it important to Buy Local?

YOU’LL GET EXCEPTIONAL TASTE AND FRESHNESS Local food is fresher and tastes better than food shipped long distances from other states or countries. Local farmers can offer produce varieties bred for taste and freshness rather than for shipping and long shelf life.
YOU’LL STRENGTHEN YOUR LOCAL ECONOMY Buying local food keeps your dollars circulating in your community. Getting to know the farmers who grow your food builds relationships based on understanding and trust, the foundation of strong communities.
YOU’LL SUPPORT ENDANGERED FAMILY FARMS There’s never been a more critical time to support your farming neighbors. With each local food purchase, you ensure that more of your money spent on food goes to the farmer.
YOU’LL SAFEGUARD YOUR FAMILY’S HEALTH Knowing where your food comes from and how it is grown or raised enables you to choose safe food from farmers who offer a pure wholesolme product from their operations. Buy food from local farmers you trust.
YOU’LL PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT Local food doesn’t have to travel far. This reduces carbon dioxide emissions and packing materials. Buying local food also helps to make farming more profitable and selling farmland for development less attractive.
BUYING LOCAL IS EASY  When you buy local food, you vote with your food dollar. This ensures that family farms in your community will continue to thrive and that healthy, flavorful, plentiful food will be available for future generations.!

Understanding the Ingredients I use

Oils-I use a lot of good fats to cook with. For high temperatures I use grapeseed oil mostly. I avoid bad fats like vegetable oils & canola oil.

Flour-As you may notice I use almond flour in my recipes for baking because it contains good fats & protein. It is also a grain free flour for those of you who follow a gluten free, cellular healing or paleo type lifestyle.

Sweeteners-I use stevia, xylitol & raw honey as the sweeteners. I prefer stevia and xylitol because they do not raise your glycemic level like raw honey but I also like the healing properties that raw honey offers so I do use it occasionally in small amounts. It’s nice to have guilt free low glycemic treats and my goal is to take comfort foods and make them taste yummy without the extra calories & glycemic load that leads to inflammation and weight gain. Do not feed xylitol or baked goods made with xylitol to your pets; their digestive tracts do not have the acidic like ours to break it down therefore it can be toxic.

Local Meat & Produce-Know your farmer, know your food!

Is this type of lifestyle right for you?

I do not believe that one diet is for everyone but after working with many patients I think that there are 3 basic changes everyone should make.

1.) Remove all processed foods including grains and sugar

2.) Switch to good fats only (full fat dairy products, olive oil, avocado, raw nuts, grapeseed oil, coconut oil) and remove bad fats from diet (canola oil, cottonseed oil, vegetable oils)

3.) When eating grains choose ancient grains like wild rice, brown rice, quinoa, millet & amaranth

If you are in a state of inflammation I believe you should remove anything that causes inflammation at the cellular level which includes ALL GRAINS & ALL SUGAR, even raw honey. Removing all grains and all sugar will reduce the inflammation throughout your body. This type of inflammation affects every organ, tissue, artery, blood vessel, hormone and cell, therefore determines your state of health. Inflammation is the #1 killer in America and the source of the majority of degenerative diseases we are facing today. For example the true cause of heart disease is not cholesterol but an inflammatory condition of the arterial wall.

There are 5 factors that determine if removing all grain & sugar is right for you:

1.) High Triglycerides/Cholesterol– If you are a sugar burner and not a fat burner your body will not store or burn fat normally, therefore elevating triglycerides.

2.) High Blood Pressure– Inflammation of the large arteries leads to high blood pressure. Inflammation is controlled by removing grains & sugar from your diet.

3.) Elevated Glucose/Insulin/Leptin– Once the insulin receptors are burned out, a fasting glucose, insulin, or leptin test will be elevated. Removing all sugar is the only way to heal the insulin receptors.

4.) Neurotoxicity- A trained detoxification specialist, like myself, can determine this with a health history, blood work and/or other professional lab testing.

5.) Protein/Fat Genetic Type– Some individuals genetically do better without consuming grains. Others excel on high fat and/or high protein diet. This can only be determined by how you feel and how your body responds (weight change, energy, brain clarity etc.) on a particular diet.

Tip: A family history of diabetes or obesity is a genetic clue that a Grain Free, Sugar Free type of diet is the perfect lifestyle for you.
